Rubber seals span thousands of applications, but the most-requested categories for OEM programs are oil seals, water pump seals, and drum seals. Each does a specific job, demands a specific compound family, and fails in specific ways if the wrong choice is made.
Oil seals (rotary shaft seals)
Oil seals — also called rotary shaft seals — keep lubricant inside a housing and contaminants out, around rotating shafts in engines, transmissions, and hydraulic equipment. The sealing lip rides directly against the rotating shaft.
- NBR for general-purpose engine and transmission oil
- FKM (Viton-style) for hot oil and aggressive fluids — service to around 200 °C
- HNBR for higher temperature service than NBR (130 °C continuous)
The standard automotive sizes we run feed programs with Hino, Suzuki, Honda, and other Japanese OEMs. Custom dimensions are tooled in-house on our CNC mold line.
Water pump seals
Water pump seals stop coolant from escaping an automotive or industrial water pump. They sit in a thermally cyclic environment with constant low-grade chemical exposure (coolant additives), and they need to last the life of the pump.
- EPDM for coolant and water contact — the default
- NBR for hybrid coolant-oil applications (older designs)
We supply standard automotive dimensions and custom profiles built to match incumbent suppliers.
Drum seals
Drum seals fit on steel and plastic drums for oil, chemicals, water, and food-grade contents. Compound choice is dictated entirely by what's inside the drum.
- NBR for petroleum and oil drums
- EPDM for water and aqueous chemicals
- FKM for aggressive industrial chemicals
- Silicone (VMQ) where food-contact suitability is required
How to spec a seal
Send us four pieces of information and we can quote:
- Seal type (oil seal, water pump seal, drum seal, other)
- Shaft and housing dimensions (or a drawing)
- Operating temperature and fluid in contact
- Expected annual quantity
How quality is held
Every seal compound is rheometer-tested for cure curve before production. Ozone, aging, and endurance test rigs in our QC lab validate seal performance over expected service life. Records are retained under our SGS-certified ISO 9001:2015 system. Our sealing range serves oil, gas, water utility, and process equipment applications alongside our automotive seal programs.
