Custom Rubber Molding: From Sample to Production in 6 Steps

From a drawing, a sample, or a concept — six steps from inquiry to first shipment. Tooling stays inside our walls.

Multi-cavity steel mold CNC-milled in-house at PB Rubber Indo

Custom rubber molding sounds complicated. The process can be reduced to six steps — and at PB Rubber Indo, all of them happen inside our walls at the 10,000 sqm Cikupa facility, from compound mixing through CNC mold cutting through molding through QC.

Step 1 — Inquiry and input

You send us one of three things: a 2D PDF or 3D STEP file, a physical sample, or a description of what the part needs to do. Drawings welcome in English or Japanese (日本語対応).

Step 2 — Compound recommendation and quote

Our engineering team identifies the compound family (NBR, EPDM, FKM, silicone, NR, CR, SBR, or a custom blend) based on the fluid, temperature, and service life requirements. Tooling cost and unit price are quoted alongside.

Step 3 — Mold design and CNC milling

The mold is designed, then CNC-milled in-house on our mold manufacturing line. Multi-cavity tooling, slide actions, ejector layouts — all designed and cut here. For programs that need an early fit-check, our FDM 3D printer produces a prototype tool fast. Typical tooling lead time is 3 to 6 weeks.

Step 4 — Compound mixing

The recommended compound is mixed in-house on our 55-litre or 75-litre internal kneader, finished on a two-roll mill, and rheometer-tested for cure curve before any production run. Compound certificate is retained against the production batch ID.

Step 5 — Prototype mold run and validation

A prototype run is shot — typically 10 to 100 parts — for dimensional check on the measuring microscope, hardness verification on a sample slab, and customer sign-off. If something is off, the mold is corrected and the run repeats.

Step 6 — Series production

Series runs on the cold runner injection presses (9 units), compression machines (46), hot runner (4), or vacuum molders (3) — matched to the part. Final inspection per the QC instruction, packaging, certificate of conformance with the shipment.
